  • Al Kaline, Denny McLain & Rocky Colavito Autographed Detroit Tigers Baseball Caps Collection
  • Al Kaline (1934–2020), Denny McLain (born 1944), and Rocky Colavito (1933–2024) were three of the most recognizable stars associated with Detroit Tigers baseball and the American League during the 1950s and 1960s. Kaline, affectionately known as “Mr. Tiger,” spent his entire 22-season Major League career with Detroit. An 18-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glove winner, he collected 3,007 hits, 399 home runs, and helped lead the Tigers to the 1968 World Series championship. Kaline was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1980.McLain was the dominant pitching star of that 1968 championship team, producing an extraordinary 31–6 record and becoming the last Major League pitcher to win 30 or more games in a season. He earned both the American League Cy Young and MVP Awards in 1968 and captured another Cy Young Award in 1969.Colavito, nicknamed “Rocky” and best remembered as a powerful slugger for Cleveland and Detroit, was a six-time All-Star who finished his 14-season career with 374 home runs and 1,159 RBIs. He famously hit four home runs in a single game in 1959 and spent four productive seasons with the Tigers from 1960–1963. Together, Kaline, McLain, and Colavito evoke one of the most memorable periods of American League baseball, highlighted by tremendous power, pitching dominance, and Detroit’s historic 1968 championship.

  • This Collection is offered with the personal guarantee of the consignor, Richard Andrews, who assembled it directly from the athletes over many years of collecting. Approximately ninety percent (90%) of the autographed items in this Collection were personally signed by the athlete in Mr. Andrews' presence. The remaining items were obtained from reputable auction sites.Mr. Andrews affirms that, to the best of his personal knowledge, no item in this Collection has been falsified, altered, re-signed, or misrepresented, and that the details provided for each item are accurate andbased on his own first-hand experience obtaining the autograph. Mr. Andrews began collecting baseball cards in the late 1950’s and continued into the early 1990’s. He befriended several promoters of sports card shows in the mid-1980’s, and this is how he came to know the athletes and obtain the majority of the autographs in his collection. In assisting with the aforementioned sports card shows, he was able to meet and spend personal time with many of his childhood baseball heroes, including Mickey Mantle, Don Drysdale, Whitey Ford, Ernie Banks, Eddie Mathews, Al Kaline, Brooks Robinson, and many others.As added assurance, Crafted Auctions will accept the return of any item in this Collection if the buyer obtains a documented “not authentic” determination from PSA/DNA, JSA, or Beckett within one hundredtwenty (120) days of purchase. The item must be returned in the same condition in which it was received, accompanied by the authenticator's written determination, for a full refund of the purchase price. Additionally, by appointment, Mr. Andrews will make himself available to share with any buyer additional specific details of any item in the Collection that is being offered at auction.
