  • Steve Garvey Hand Signed Autographed Los Angeles Dodgers Photograph
  • Steve Garvey (born 1948) was one of the most recognizable and consistent first basemen of the 1970s and 1980s, starring for the Los Angeles Dodgers before finishing his career with the San Diego Padres. Garvey played 19 Major League seasons from 1969 through 1987, earning a reputation for durability, clutch hitting, and postseason success.A 10-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove winner, Garvey enjoyed his breakthrough season in 1974, batting .312 with 21 home runs and 111 RBIs while winning the National League MVP Award. He became a cornerstone of a Dodgers infield that remained together for much of the 1970s and helped Los Angeles capture National League pennants in 1974, 1977, 1978, and 1981.Garvey helped the Dodgers defeat the New York Yankees to win the 1981 World Series championship. After joining San Diego, he played a major role in the Padres capturing their first National League pennant in 1984. His dramatic walk-off home run against the Chicago Cubs in Game 4 of the 1984 NLCS remains one of the defining moments in Padres history, and Garvey earned NLCS MVP honors.Garvey retired with 2,599 hits, 272 home runs, 1,308 RBIs, and a .294 batting average. He also played 1,207 consecutive games, at the time a National League record. The Padres retired his No. 6, recognizing a player whose durability, postseason performances, and success with two Southern California franchises made him one of the notable stars of his era.
