  • Wilbert Robinson (1863–1934), Duke Snider (1926–2011), Gil Hodges (1924–1972), Joe Adcock (1927–1999), and Luis Aparicio (1934–2025) represent several generations of notable Major League Baseball history. Robinson, nicknamed “Uncle Robbie,” was a standout 19th-century catcher before becoming one of the game’s best-known managers. He managed the Brooklyn franchise from 1914–1931, leading the club to National League pennants in 1916 and 1920 and becoming so closely associated with the team that it was popularly known as the “Robins.” He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1945.Snider, the “Duke of Flatbush,” was the powerful center fielder of the Brooklyn Dodgers’ celebrated 1950s teams. An eight-time All-Star with 407 career home runs, he helped the Dodgers capture their historic 1955 World Series championship and another title after the franchise moved to Los Angeles in 1959. Hodges was another cornerstone of those Dodgers teams, earning eight All-Star selections and three Gold Gloves while hitting 370 career home runs. He later managed the 1969 “Miracle Mets” to their remarkable World Series championship.Adcock was one of the National League’s formidable power hitters of the 1950s and 1960s, particularly with the Milwaukee Braves. He hit 336 career home runs, helped Milwaukee win the 1957 World Series, and famously became one of the few players to hit four home runs in a single Major League game. Aparicio, nicknamed “Little Louie,” was a brilliant defensive shortstop and baserunner who earned nine Gold Gloves, 13 All-Star selections, and led the American League in stolen bases for nine consecutive seasons. Robinson, Snider, Hodges, and Aparicio were all inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, while Adcock remains remembered as one of the most dangerous sluggers of his era.
